If Victoria's Secret knew what was good for them they would quit having humanly impossible beauties modeling their bathing suits and lingerie. Having Alessandra Ambrosio and the like prancing around in teeny-bikinis all tanned and oiled up is both hurtful and disturbing. I found myself feeling nothing but discouraged and frankly, I don't appreciate it. Not only did I no longer want to buy a bathing suit from their never-ending swimwear collection but I suddenly started snacking without even noticing.

Meet Marc

It was a beautiful day yesterday. Today is even better. Spring is definitely on it's way in and I'm thrilled.... watch it snow tomorrow.

Yesterday afternoon we got a visit from Marc Scibilia. A Buffalo native, Marc is doing big things as a singer/songwriter. We think he's great and we really dig his music so we hooked him up with our new Spring men's line.
He's playing a show tonight at The Tralf at 8pm, opening for Willie Nile. You can try to grab some last minute tickets or check out his music on his website.

Confession: I have a sick obsession with Daria Werbowy. Sure I have my list of favorite models - (in no particular order) Kate, Lara, Sasha, Natalia, Coco, Lily, Chanel, Anja, Alessandra, Freja... - but my love for Daria surpasses them all. She's not only stunning, but she has that "je ne sais quoi". She's just a beautiful badass. Her personal style has that laid-back-tomboy-i-look-sexy-in-this-baggy-t-shirt feel that I die for and every ad campaign or spread that features her coincidentally becomes my favorite. If I could be anyone else in the world it would be her. Her eyes and that hair.... ugh.... Creeped out yet?

It saddens me though a little bit to think that Daria might be on her way out. Correct me if I'm wrong - since I didn't have the privilege to be present at NYFW or LFW - but it sounds to me like she was MIA at both (that's a lot of acronyms in one sentence). Since Milan is still going on and Paris is next up hopefully we'll see her grace a runway or two, maybe Balmain or Dior? She was even missing from my magazines there for a while, so long in fact that I was both shocked and immediately ecstatic when I opened up my February 2010 issue of US Vogue to find her staring back at me. It gets pretty pathetic when I have to stalk out foreign magazines to see her - she seems to be featured in them more. I guess she has been around the industry for a while, I started following her back in 2004 when my first issue of Vogue came in the mail. But she is certainly not old-hat. She's timeless.

All of my doting has a point, I promise. Her style and personality inspire me so much that I named our sweatpants after her. They're amazingly comfortable and if you can wear them in public and not care you might just exude the same kind of confidence that Daria carries... probably not though.

It's the first thing to come out of your best friend's mouth before going out:

"What are you wearing tonight?"

"......Uhhh... Well.... Mmmm........ Not a clue... You????"

For some reason my friends and I have never the type to go out and let it all hang out. We seem to strongly believe in the "Leave some to the imagination" strategy. There's nothing worse than the jaw dropping what-the-*!%#-is-that-girl-wearing-I-can-see-her-everything and I'm proud to say that I've very rarely had to turn my friend around to change before letting her out in public.

My go-to item, my absolute essential PIECE to any wardrobe is a classic button-down shirt. Now, you might be thinking "doesn't get any frumpier than that" or "I wouldn't be caught dead downtown in that" but hear me out... Not only are they comfortable and easy to wear with almost anything - they're not as conservative as you might perceive them to be. Enter Angelina Jolie.......

It's no mystery that every man wants to see his ladyfriend making breakfast in the morning in his work shirt. By wearing a shirt that resembles his out at night, you're automatically putting this idea into their heads. Trust me, it works.

And so I give you the aptly-named Walk of Shame button down. It's a perfect oversized fit so it's still sexy and you won't be swimming in it. Tuck it in or tie it with a pair of skinny jeans and some heels (flats or boots for a more casual look). Done and done.

So here's a little tid bit about the new design we're using in the spring line. It's going to be featured on our limited print, customized pullover hoodies. Each one of the women's designs features the sparrow in gold foil across the chest and has different fabric lining the hood. We've got the guys covered too with their own version.... but we kept it manly man and left the gold plated bird off your pectorals.

In other news, we're so excited that we're getting to design our own office! We're going to have more video updates too so that you may feel as if you're right inside the production room with us [viewer discretion is advised]. Think less Real World, more Jersey Shore.......

Our webstore is in the process of getting put up. I know you all have been chewing your nails off waiting for the day you get to buy the line via internet. Have no fear, it's almost here !!!!

My Kinda Town

I spent this past weekend in Chicago visiting friends and we had a helluva time. Thankfully I actually made it, considering over 400 flights were cancelled into O'Hare - precisely why you must always fly into Midway - due to severe weather conditions... as if my fear of flying couldn't get any worse. It's really gotten out of hand. I am about as superstitious/OCD as it gets in my pre-flight routine, which probably explains all of the weird looks: Step on with the right foot while giving the plane two little love taps, find a window seat on the left side but never on the wing or in aisle 13, two spritzes of Rescue Remedy Spray, fall asleep before takeoff.... Yeah....

I used to also be a big supporter of Southwest Airlines, but that all came to a screeching halt when I was woken up by a stewardess singing over the intercom. Extremely rude.

Things were lookin' up after that nonsense was over. We hit up some old favorites - like good old Maxbar, the most fun late night slopfest you've ever had in your life - and ventured into some new spots - Lion's Head Pub/The Apartment, McFadden's. (**note: I have only provided links to these places after confirming that I'm not anywhere in the photo galleries) Most bars close at 2am instead of 4am there which is weird; and there is a serious lack of places to get food at that hour so yay for you Buffalo! But if you're ever in the area, which I hope you get to be at one point or another in your life, each of those places has my personal stamp of approval.

Oh by the way, it was freezing cold.

Did you miss me?

The holidays are finally over - can I get a hell yeah? We had a crazy season over here and we want to thank all of you for making it a huge success.

We've got a lot of exciting things going on to bring in the New Year. New website, new in-store display, new online store and the new women's and men's collections for late Winter/early Spring.

PIECE is doing a lot of soul searching, really trying to dig into what we want our brand to be, what kind of vibe we want our brand to have, what kind of lifestyle we want to represent.

Unfortunately I can't sit with each of you and gab about your night before, but lucky for youuuu we're going to get personal with this blogging business. The blog is going to become more of a journal - how us youngin's manage our lives running a clothing company, school, and social life. If we're feeling really nice one day we might even let Brett talk about his girl drama.....

Just because I'm blogging today doesn't mean you can't read this, I have clever, witty and intelligent things to say too just like Alexis. I'm honestly feeling a little lonely today because Alexis and Brett are both being mega nerds in school probably sucking up to their professors to beg for that passing C- grade. Kidding, it's getting down to crunch time and they're both working hard to finish the semester strong just as a lot of you probably are nearing the end as well. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that this month off from school can't come soon enough.

If you haven't heard already, late last week we received a fresh order of the Perfect Sweatshirt, The Dangerfield, and also stocked up on two new colors to accompany the classic black & grey. The newest color additions to the Perfect Sweatshirt line up are a coral red and a grass green as seen below. The new colors are going fast so make sure you can stop into Tony Walker & Company to pick one up before the holidays!

Confession

I'll admit it... I went and saw New Moon on opening day... at 11am... alone. I'm not ashamed - It was absolutely worth it and I knew I would have anxiety over resisting reading the reviews or overhearing people's opinions. I powered through the book more than a year ago in a mere 36 hours so I was holding the movie to pretty high standards and was almost preparing myself for disappointment since Twilight didn't REALLY do the book justice. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Kristen Stewart looked much prettier in this one, which made me feel less jealous about her romance with Robby boy... and her acting was much improved since the last film, even though the strange scream-squeal that she does will forever annoy me. I was worried the one-dimensional Kristen from Twilight wasn't going to be able to get that depressed/lifeless emotion across, but she pretty much nailed it and I did cry like I did when I was reading the book. (Insert pathetic, girl sigh here)

I haven't talked to you in a while so let me give ya a little update:

Last weekend we watched Brett play a show with his band It's a Firefight at Mohawk Place that was awesome. He's a certified rockstar and told me that he takes cues from his idol Michael Bolton. (Here he's wearing The Mayer v-neck)

Our sweatpants are here and I hate to brag but they are unbelievable - so soft and comfy.. and they're oversized so you can even feel like you stole them from the boyfriend that you may or may not have...... I couldn't wait to go home last night and get into them - I really believe that they enhanced my sleeping experience. So, if you know what's good for you, you'll come in and check those out :)

Girl Scout Cookies

No wonder I'm starving... all we've done today is talk about that 4-letter word that starts with f.... FOOD.

Recently we got interviewed by a local blog, Buffalo Eats! Their blog features reviews of local restaurants and reveals where to find the city's best beer selections. It's geared toward a younger crowd and gives some pretty good advice and honest opinions on the non-chain hot-spots around town. It's definitely a good site to check out if you're planning a first date or you're looking to try out somewhere new. They do a great job of supporting local business and we're so excited they chose to interview us! Read the article here

And then Billy brought up Girl Scout Cookies...... It really concerns me why everyone gets their precious Girl Scout Cookies and I am never involved. I have never once seen said Girl Scouts, and frankly I'm not happy about it. Quit holdin' out on me, girls.

Getting dressed today I couldn't help but laugh and think of my best friend Brigitte who used to cringe at the thought of wearing tights. She always tried talking me into seeing her side of it- how they were unbearably itchy and made her feel claustrophobic. I wanted to agree with her but back in the day my Mom would never let me out of the house during the cold winter months if I was wearing a dress or skirt to school without having tights on. Even though I tended to like to rebel against her wishes, as most pre-teen girls do, wearing tights was something that never really bothered me since I basically lived in them anyway growing up as a dancer. Not to mention the fact that you couldn't have paid me any amount of money to sport pajama pants under a dress on the way to school just to avoid frost bite like the older high school girls did. My mom always commented on what a bad look that was and this was one of the few things she and I actually agreed on. I was quite pleased with my final decision to pair black Danskin tights under my Current/Elliott boyfriend shorts when I stepped outside this morning. Although the sun is shining, it's rather brisk out there. So here's to you Brig, miss you htb.

Tights are chic, classic, and a huge trend for Fall and Winter- forget the fact that they're actually practical, especially for those of us bearing the cold in the Northeast region. Trekking through the streets that could be easily mistaken for tundras, it's suicide without them. If you're bored with the standard black look, the patterned styles are worth coveting. Right now, I'm loving tights with jean shorts or a sequined mini. They should actually be a requirement with the hemlines they're showing this Fall, so be a doll and keep your Lindsay Lohan to yourself.

From the window, to the wall

I had a mini-Ryan Reynolds marathon the other day... started out with Just Friends, a personal favorite, plateaued with Adventureland, and finished with The Proposal. My eyes were very happy with me that day.. however I do wish a lasting impression other than the "what the..." moment of Sandra Bullock randomly breaking out into "Get Low" by the Ying Yang Twins halfway through the last movie was left in my head. If you've seen the movie, which was overall fairly decent, you know what I'm talking about. It really baffled me. Then again, so did the decision to even cast Bullock in a role to be paired up with the much younger Reynolds. But that's another story for another day...

Speaking of walls, our display is lookin' mighty fine if I do say so myself. We have tacked on over 150 photos to the cork-board that lies inside our wooden frame. Almost all of our "you know who you are"s are featured up there. It serves for quite the walk down memory lane.

In other news... Just got word that one of my favorite bands right now, The XX, was featured on 90210. I'm not a huge fan of the show - actually I've never watched it ever, so I guess I don't have any opinion - but I'm super excited for them. I feel like I blinked and boom it's November. . .

Regardless of it even being Halloween this past weekend, the P I E C E crew had a crazy couple of days. We actually LAUNCHED this weekend, which is absolutely unreal. Almost all of the women's is out, this week we'll release men's. Everything looks amazing - I promise we'll get some more product shots up on the website here in the near future.

Our 5th podcast is up and is a little more upbeat this week than previous ones. I think we were in pretty high spirits here, excited to celebrate my personal favorite holiday of the year. I wish we could dress up every day. Brett and Glenn were a hilarious Mac + PC pair, I kept it classic with a cat (it was actually for lack of time & preparation, a little black eyeliner for whiskers and a nose worked beautifully). I was a pleasantly surprised in the costume selection - thought I would have seen way more Michael Jacksons or Kate Gosselins... Lady GaGa was everywhere.

On a sadder note... one of my all-time favorite groups, Copeland, has broken up. You can read their announcement in the News section here. So I just downloaded the new and improved (now $2.99) Tweetie app for my iPhone and it single handily revived my love for Twitter that was slowly fading. It's so much easier to manage my 3 twitter accounts - 2 business, 1 personal - and the functions like uploading pictures, retweeting, and @replies, are 100x better. It got me thinking about how, no matter what anyone says, Twitter is so necessary in my life. I decided that it best comes in handy when I have something to say but no one to listen, when I want to make fun of someone or something, when I want to remember what I did while I was out the night before (the notorious drunk-tweets), and when I am too lazy to go and look up something on my own since it's pretty much turned into its own search engine and people are already talking about it. Looking back on this I realize that it has absolutely no positive influences on my life and that I should probably stop "tweeting" immediately..... Nahhh

Older Is Better

If you have never taken a trip to a local antique or thrift store then you have been missing out. Although the smell is a musty one that you won't soon forget, there are some little treasures to be found and they can be purchased for under five dollars. This week Brett and I have come across some awesome items that are older than us and probably cooler than us too.

Just like an antique or thrift store, Grandma's basement can be a great place to find small treasures, however, if you're "in" with Grams then they won't cost you a penny, maybe just a big kiss and one of those dreaded tugs on your cheek. The past few weeks, Brett has been doing some digging in his Gram's basement and found some awesome items. Over the past year or so Brett has shown me a clock, a high school senior picture of his Dad and a great furniture collection. However, this time we had a camera handy and took a picture of his most recent discovery; a bartenders guide. To be more specific, Old Mr. Boston's De Luxe Official Bartender's Guide. We'll be practicing all week, and Alexis has volunteered to test every drink.

Although my find is unable to be held in my hands, I still found it to be incredible. Now, I'll admit I don't really like baseball, but, when we're talking about American history and then baseball comes involved...now you have got my attention. Well imagine this, having the chance to bid on the game used bat of the great Babe Ruth. Hang on Yankees fans, this bat was used to win the rivaled Red Sox of Boston a World Series title. Had a seriously too-fast birthday celebration this weekend with great friends and The BFFLs (pronounced biff-els) who flew in from Charleston and Rhode Island to come hang. All in all it was a pretty awesome night regardless of a little mishap that resulted in a very bruised and swollen- close, but not broken- right hand. Lucky for me, I had all day Sunday to recuperate, and wasn't even upset about the fact that I slept through the disgrace of a Bills game that was unfortunately aired on national television. Today it's back to the grind and I'm hiding my rough-weekend pretty well thanks to the Shu Umera Cleansing Oil that I just bought and am thoroughly obsessed with. Washing your face with oil never seemed like a good idea to me and frankly I just didn't buy the whole shpeel. But now I'm ready and willing to take all of the "I toldya so"s that could be thrown at me. I highly recommend it.

Dad & The Evening Drink

I'm sure a lot of people can relate to me when I say this about my Dad...For as long as I can remember, whenever my Dad came home from work he would always makes a drink, usually a Manhattan, then sat down to watch some TV. Now that I have become of age to legally buy alcohol the tradition of the evening drink has become a part of my life. The sights, scents and sounds of October have convinced me that Sam Adams Octoberfest would be the perfect night cap. Unfortunately upon my arrival to the cooler in the back of the store, I was told that they were out of stock of the seasonal beverage. I wouldn't let this stop my quest. I decided on some Saranac Pumpkin Ale. Perfect. I came home, walked in my door, poured my beer and sat on the couch while Dad sipped his Manhattan on the chair next to me.

We are making some big moves this week to get ready for our product launch, and I can't wait to show it all off. Especially with the weather changing, it's the perfect time to get some of our fundamental layers in your closet. You wont have to wait too much longer, promise.

I now realize I have a love/hate relationship with the self-checkout line at supermarkets. I love it because when I want to get some Stride and a 18 pound bag of bulk candy, I can get out of there and to my car (to kill off some gummy worms) a.s.a.p. However, it kind of ruins the human interaction between shopper and cashier that I always look forward to. There has to be a happy medium, maybe a self-checkout machine that can carry out an awkward 30 second conversation would do the trick? Just an idea.
Has anyone gone out and seen Zombieland yet? Pretty awesome. I mean I'll be the first to admit I am incredibly biased in my review, due to my love of zombies, movies, and zombie movies. But Emma Stone with bangs and a shotgun is a fool proof way of making bank at the box office.

It's Octoberrrr!

Finally, October is hereeee! It took long enough. Fall is really the best time of year around these parts. It's football, jeans&sweater, long-drives-to-Ellicottville-for-the-weekend season, and I could not be more excited about it. But, I suppose I could just be partial to it because my birthday happens smack dab in the middle of this awesome time (October 22nd and yes, I'm accepting gifts). They say that Spring is when things are born- flowers bloom, little birds sing, yadda yadda- but I disagree; for me it's Fall. So many new things are happening right now. PIECE is launching a week from tomorrow which is absolutely insane! The crew and I have been working like crazy on designing and getting the website up. AND Glenn just finished our first edition of the PIECEpodcast with all the songs we were jammin' to this week so be sure to check that out.

Have you ever gathered all your thoughts at the end of the day? Put all of those thoughts together and it makes one piece of your day. Add all of your days together, that makes one piece of your week. Add all of your weeks and months and years together, and those create the pieces of your life.

The same can be said about your wardrobe. First, put on your scarf. Then, put on a soft, fitted tee shirt. Finally, a comfortable and warming sweatshirt, all of these clothing items become a piece of your day, weeks, years, and life. Simple and classic, these are characteristics that Piece believes in.
